Every rescue animal has a story. Some stories are difficult to hear, but they also remind us just how powerful compassion and a second chance can be.
This Worthy Cause Wednesday, we’re highlighting Canine Castaways, one of the incredible causes our company is proud to support, and sharing the story of a sweet dog named Mavis.
Mavis’ Road to Healing
When Mavis arrived at Canine Castaways, she carried visible signs of what she had endured.
A collar had been left around her neck for far too long. As Mavis grew, the collar became embedded in her skin. It left behind a painful wound that wrapped around her neck.
Thankfully, Mavis was now somewhere she could receive the help she desperately needed.
The veterinary team quickly cleaned and treated the wound. They performed a culture to identify the infection and started Mavis on antibiotics to help her heal.
And in just two weeks, her transformation was remarkable.
Her wound healed beautifully, leaving behind a scar. While that scar may always be part of Mavis, it no longer represents only what happened to her.
Scars tell stories.
Mavis’ scar tells the story of neglect, but it also tells the story of rescue, compassionate veterinary care, healing, a second chance and a fresh start.
A Simple Reminder for Every Dog Owner
Mavis’ story also offers an important reminder for all pet owners: check your dog’s collar regularly.
You should always be able to comfortably fit two fingers between your dog’s collar and their neck. This is especially important for puppies and young dogs, whose collars can quickly become too tight as they grow.
It only takes a few seconds to check, but those few seconds can help keep your pet safe and comfortable.
Supporting Second Chances in Our Community
Stories like Mavis’ are why we are proud to support Canine Castaways as one of our company’s Worthy Causes. Their work gives dogs who have experienced neglect, abandonment, or difficult circumstances the opportunity to heal and discover what life can look like when they are surrounded by people who care.
Mavis has already come so far, and her story is only beginning.
This Worthy Cause Wednesday, we’re celebrating her recovery and the dedicated people who helped make it possible. We can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds for Mavis.
Here’s to healing, second chances, and brighter days ahead!
