For this Worthy Cause Wednesday, we’re highlighting the Canine Castaways Furever Foster Program and the incredible difference it makes for dogs with serious or chronic medical needs. As one of the worthy causes our company proudly supports, Canine Castaways works to give vulnerable dogs the care, comfort, and second chances they deserve.
Daphne’s story is a wonderful example of what the Furever Foster Program can mean for a dog who might otherwise have very few options.
Daphne’s Journey to a Furever Home
Daphne arrived at Canine Castaways in September 2021. She was six years old, weighed just six pounds, and had chronic kidney disease.
It soon became clear that a kennel environment wasn’t the right place for her. Her ongoing medical needs could also make finding a traditional adoptive family difficult.
Then, a couple opened their hearts and home to Daphne. They became her Furever Foster family. ❤️
Over the years, Daphne has experienced several medical challenges. Most recently, she was hospitalized with pancreatitis and needed IV fluids and medication. Thankfully, she responded to treatment and began feeling better.
Through every difficult day, Daphne has had something every dog deserves: a family, a home, and people who love her.
How the Canine Castaways Furever Foster Program Works
The Canine Castaways Furever Foster Program helps dogs with serious or chronic medical conditions who may have limited options for traditional adoption.
Furever Foster families welcome these dogs into their homes and provide everyday care, routine expenses, companionship, and love. Meanwhile, Canine Castaways remains committed to their medical care for the rest of their lives.
No one knows how much time a Furever Foster family will have with their dog. It could be weeks, months, or, like Daphne, years. What matters is that whatever time remains can be spent in the comfort of a loving home.
Canine Castaways summed up the heart of the program beautifully:
“The heartbreak may belong to us, but the happiness belongs to them.”
